The brief we set ourselves
Wellbeing apps can feel like one more thing to do. We wanted an evening routine short enough to finish — four minutes — and an interface that slows down as you do.
The idea
Halo is a fictional wind-down app. A session is a sequence of small steps: dim the screen, breathe, write one line, put the phone down. Breathing follows the 4-7-8 pattern. In the morning, the app shows what happened without judging it.
Typography and colour
Sora, in light weights, does everything — soft and slow. Sage, pine, lichen and mist keep contrast gentle in the evening without losing legibility.

Signature interaction
The breathing guide. Start it and follow the ring: in for four, hold for seven, out for eight. With reduced motion turned on, the ring stays still and only the count changes.
Four minutes. Start when you’re ready.
Follow the ring: in through the nose for four, hold for seven, out through the mouth for eight. Stop whenever you like.
What we would test next
Whether four minutes is short enough to become a habit, how people with breathing conditions should adapt the pattern, and how the morning summary can encourage without becoming another score.
